Your Brain has been Hijacked

Highly processed foods have been engineered to hijack our natural hunger and satiety hormones—primarily leptin and ghrelin—which play a crucial role in regulating appetite and energy balance. These foods are designed to be hyper-palatable, combining excessive amounts of sugar, refined carbohydrates, unhealthy fats, and artificial additives that override the body's natural signals of fullness and hunger.

Highly processed foods hijack the brain’s reward system by overstimulating dopamine, the neurotransmitter responsible for pleasure and motivation. Over time, this leads to:

  1. Dopamine Desensitization: The brain becomes less responsive to natural rewards (e.g., whole foods, social interactions) and craves processed foods to achieve the same dopamine hit.

  2. Impaired Decision-Making: The prefrontal cortex, responsible for impulse control and rational thinking, becomes weakened, making it harder to resist cravings.

  3. Emotional Dysregulation: Mood swings, anxiety, and depression are common due to neurotransmitter imbalances caused by blood sugar spikes and crashes.

  4. Habit Formation and Dependency: The brain develops automatic behavioral patterns, making processed food addiction feel compulsive and difficult to break.
